What gin for a martini?

Do you fancy a martini, but aren’t sure about the ingredients? Here’s our favourite martini recipe:

Ingredients:

– 50ml gin – ours, obviously!

– 15ml vermouth (an aromatic fortified wine, flavoured with various botanicals)

– Ice cubes

– A cocktail olive or a twist of lemon peel (optional)

Method:

  1. Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Add gin and vermouth to the shaker and stir gently to combine (or shake gently, if you prefer it shaken, not stirred!)
  3. Strain into a chilled glass.
  4. Garnish with an olive or a twist of lemon peel, if desired.

This recipe is for a classic gin martini – dry, with a ratio of 3:1 gin to vermouth. If you prefer your martinis ‘wetter’ (with more vermouth), simply increase the vermouth quantity to 20-25ml. And if you like it extra dirty (with a splash of olive brine), add a dash to taste!
